About Us

Trauma and Wellness Institute (TWI) was founded by Lisa Hayes, LISW-S, Tammy Moore, LISW-S and Suzi Rutti, LISW-S in 2019.  The purpose of TWI is to provide high quality, socially conscious, culturally humble trauma-informed training, consultation and other services.

TWI strives to create safe spaces for professional curiosity, professional development, community engagement, equitable access, critical self-evaluation and increased cultural humility.  TWI seeks to provide the community with trauma-informed trainings, consultation and other services that will enhance our community and ensure standards of practice.

TWI acknowledges the impact of trauma in our personal, local and global communities and is committed to continuous learning and trainings that increase the trauma competency of professionals serving these communities.

Our Core Values: TWI values diversity of community, identity and ideas. We seek to reflect those values in our work and in our community interactions.

TWI is formerly known as the Ohio Institute for Trauma and Wellness as of 2023.

Who We Are

Lisa Hayes, LISW-S  (she/her/hers)

Lisa Hayes, MSW, LISW-S is a Clinical Social Worker based in Columbus, OH. Lisa has owned her own private practice since 2011 and is a co-owner of Trauma and Wellness Institute, LLC. Lisa is a Certified EMDR Therapist and Approved Consultant through the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA). She provides clinical supervision to social work professionals and EMDR consultation both locally and nationally.  She is also a facilitator with The Institute for Creative Mindfulness  and provides support for EMDR therapy Basic Training and Advanced Training topics in Central Ohio. Lisa graduated with a master’s degree in Social Work from The Ohio State University. Her undergraduate education is in Sociology and Gender Studies; her academic and professional focus has always included special considerations for issues of gender identity, sexuality, race and social representation. Her clinical experiences include work with complex trauma; complex PTSD;  residential alcohol and drug treatment; inpatient psychiatric hospitalization; significant life transitions; racial/ethnic and culturally specific trauma and identity; LGBTQIA+ specific support needs; depression; complex dissociation; Military Veteran experiences; anxiety; sexual assault and childhood sexual abuse. Lisa’s clinical practice has primarily focused on the treatment of adolescents and adults. Lisa is energized by environments of learning, collaboration and increased understanding; she has provided local and national trainings focused on the impacts of trauma and its effects on individuals, communities and families. In her therapeutic work, Lisa uses a variety of expressive and experiential therapeutic interventions all aimed at identifying and celebrating the strengths of each person.

Tammy Moore, LISW-S (she/her/hers)

Tammy Moore, LISW-S is a clinical social worker with supervision designation with the Ohio Counselor Marriage and Family Therapist Board. She owns and operates her own private practice and is co-owner of Trauma and Wellness Institute, LLC. She has practiced social work since 2005 after graduating with a  Master’s degree in Social Work from the Ohio State University. She is a trauma therapist who specializes in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Tammy is a certified EMDR consultant and an agency based faculty member with the Institute for Creative Mindfulness facilitating EMDR basic trainings. She also utilizes DBT skills, Cognitive processing therapy, trauma-focused CBT, art and play strategies for children, and mindfulness based interventions. Tammy is a local and national presenter of various trauma focused trainings ranging from trauma informed care, trauma recovery, secondary trauma, and impact of trauma on marginalized populations. In her clinical practice, Tammy focuses on treating childhood trauma and other adverse childhood experiences, complex PTSD, military trauma, LGBTQIA+ specific support needs, traumatized children, intimate partner violence, sexual assault, sexual abuse, and dissociation. Tammy is committed to providing access to trauma recovery and education to patients and her community. She strives to provide treatment, training, and consultation from a lens of cultural humility, resiliency, respect, and collaboration.

Suzi Rutti, LISW-S (she/her/hers)

Suzi Rutti, MSW, LISW-S owns and operates the private practice group Rutti Counseling & Consultation, LLC in Columbus, Ohio.  She is a co-owner of Trauma and Wellness Institute, LLC and the Central Ohio EMDR Connection, LLC.  She holds a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Michigan with a concentration in Interpersonal Practice and Mental Health.  She is a Clinical Social Worker that works with children, adolescents and adults of all ages, and does not have a minimum age requirement.  She specializes in the treatment of complex PTSD, dissociation/dissociative disorders, preverbal trauma, sexual violence, childhood abuse, traumatic birth experience, intimate partner violence, and other adverse life experiences.  Suzi primarily practices using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, and also integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), play therapy, and mindfulness-based practices into her work.  Suzi is a senior faculty member with The Institute for Creative Mindfulness and provides EMDR therapy foundational training and Advanced Training topics in Central Ohio.  She provides clinical supervision and EMDR therapy consultation as an EMDRIA Certified Therapist and Approved Consultant to clinicians across the nation. Suzi believes in the importance of making high quality trauma treatment accessible to all communities, and has presented to numerous local and national audiences on a variety of topics relevant to the impact of trauma and how best to support survivors.

TWI believes trauma impacts individuals across their lifespan at intersections of age, race, cultural identities, sexual orientation, gender, and socioeconomic status.  As practitioners, we acknowledge the ethical responsibility to provide trauma-focused, culturally-informed care.  We support professionals in the enrichment of the skills and knowledge necessary to provide ethical treatment to trauma survivors.  TWI brings a diverse array of personal identities, professional education, training, and practical experience to our training program.

Trauma and Wellness Institute values equitable access to education and training.
